Description

Every year we honour. We remember. We resist. In the words of the Sisters in Spirit organizing committee: We are doing this in honour of all missing and murdered Indigenous women though we at this time have been focusing as well on Helen Gillings who was murdered in Hamilton in 1995 and whose case remains unsolved. This workshop is made possible through the Janet Cluett Memorial Fund. Wen-Do is different than any other self-defence program you have seen. It is all about you, your body, your abilities and your power. It is about meeting you where you and your body are, exactly as they are, today. It is powerful self-defence designed to be used against physically larger and stronger attackers. Wen-Do course content and this location are accessible to all people and bodies. Wheelchair users are welcome. We break stereotypes in this space. With discussion, storytelling, physical technique instruction and practice, we get to witness ourselves and each other in our power. Wen-Do is survivor-centered, empowerment-based, accessible and intersectional self-defence. All women are welcome - and this of course includes transwomen. Together, we will strive to create a nonjudgmental space that respects each others' choices and lifestyles. The workshop will be Saturday February 17th from 1-3pm. The exact workshop space will be made available to participants once they register.
