Sandy Shaw Provincial NDP Candidate for Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas Presentation: Women + Corporate Governance Wed. February 21, 2018 5:30pm - 7:30pm Sandy Shaw examines the importance of promoting more women to seats on boards of directors. Whether elected or appointed, how do women's voices and experiences inform the decision making process on corporate and non-profit boards? A subset of this issue is, how do women access elected positions in government? What are the barriers to access? Does inclusion make these organizations more resilient, socially responsible and successful? Boards of Directors not only drive corporate culture, they also greatly influence the choices available to us as consumers, think: banks, food and drug companies, media, cultural institutions, resources (water, fossil fuels, etc.). What is available to is, and how it has been brought to market is shaped by the monoculture that defines most boards. Who are the folks that have historically controlled such boards? Do they represent your values? Sandy Shaw is a past director at First Ontario Credit Union and a director at the Hamilton Port Authority . Sandy completed the unique Chartered Directors program of The Directors College, a joint venture of McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business and the Conference Board of Canada. The Directors College is Canada's first university accredited corporate director development program.
