Details

Following the 1837 Rebellion, thousands of men were imprisoned across Upper Canada to await trial as traitors. Rebellion boxes were carved by these prisoners as mementos for wives, mothers, and daughters by the prisoners at the Toronto Gaol only. A box made by Asahel Scott of Pickering for his five-year-old daughter is the highlight of this rebellion-themed exhibit. Exhibit free with admission to the site.
