St. Joseph's Health Centre (SJHC) and the Department of Medical Education & Scholarship (DMES) are pleased to announce the 63rd Annual SJHC Clinical Day - Friday November 2nd, 2018 at 08:00 to 14:30 at St. Joseph's Health Centre - Education Centre A & B. This year's program will focus on 'patient engagement and empowerment'.

SJHC Clinical Day serves to bring together Physicians, Interprofessional Providers, Nurses, Medical Learners, and Staff within SJHC and The Network for a rewarding education experience. Clinical Day will feature presentations by Physicians and Interprofessional experts from diverse clinical backgrounds and practices from St. Joseph's and The Network.

Program*

Keynote Presentation

The Clinical Day Program Committee is pleased to have Dr. Tara Kiran present as the Keynote Speaker of the 63rd Annual SJHC Clinical Day. Dr. Kiran is the Physician Lead of Health Quality Ontario Initiative building quality standards to support transition from the hospital to home. A Family Physician from St. Michael's Hospital, Dr. Kiran has extensive experience and work in the area of patient and family engagement.

What's New Series

The 'What's New Series' will feature presentations from Physicians and Interprofessional Providers focusing on clinical updates in their respected disciplines. Presentations will address techniques, issues, and/or innovations in engaging and empowering patients.

Clinical Case Presentation: Focus on Opioid Issue & SJHC

  • Dr. Anita Srivastava will present on the Opioid Crisis and its impact to St. Joseph's Health Centre

We have the pleasure of having Dr. Anita Srivastava present at this year"s program on the impact of opioid addiction in the primary care community . Dr. Srivastava is a Family Physician and Addiction Medicine Specialists from St. Joseph"s Health Centre. Her research interests include the optimal treatment of opioid addiction and community treatment protocols.


Afternoon Workshop

The afternoon program will feature workshops focused on:

  • Medical Assistance in Dying - Dr. Michael Szego and Clinical Ethics Team, SJHC & SMH

  • Gender Sensitivity - Dr. Thea Weisdorf and Ms. Katie Sussman , SMH
