Description | How three political trailblazers are breaking new ground in provincial politicsThe recent Ontario election saw a historic rise in the number of women elected to political office. Nearly 40 percent of women hold ridings in Ontario, the highest of any provincial legislature in Canada. Three newly elected MPPs in the New Democratic Party of Ontario - all members of the Ryerson community - will share their stories of why they chose to enter politics, the campaign strategies they used to win their riding and what it is like to be a new Member of Provincial Parliament. Bring your questions to our MPP panel: Jill Andrew (Toronto, St. Paul"s riding), Bhutila Karpoche (Parkdale-High Park riding), and Sara Singh (Brampton Centre riding). Sara Mojtehedzadeh, the Toronto Star"s Work and Wealth reporter, will moderate the discussion. The event will be hosted by Peggy Nash, a distinguished visiting professor in the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Community Services. This panel is part of a speaker series, Feminisms and Transformative Change, co-sponsored by both faculties. ... |
