Description

The largest canoe collection in the world — and the most Canadian museum ever.

Location: 44.2882, -78.3304

Canoes originated with the native peoples of North America, in order to navigate the continent’s copious lakes and rivers. The ingenious vessels first began as dugouts—big, hollowed tree trunks—and evolved into wooden frames covered in lightweight layers of bark or even animal skins, all long before the polyethylene versions you find at stores today.
