Description

The world of sourdough is vast and magical -- at this Sourdough + Pie Workshop you will learn the basics of baking with sourdough through hands on work.
Come spend the day with like-minded bakers
learning about all things sourdough though a hands-on experience of
making your own pie with a sourdough pie crust -- utilizing all of the different characteristics a healthy sourdough starter has to offer. You will also be participating in mixing + shaping sourdough loaves and get to smell + taste some right out of the oven.
We will discuss wild yeast, the benefit of fermenting flour, and how you can use and maintain your take-home starter. You will leave with some new-found knowledge and confidence to continue your
sourdough baking adventures at home.
At the end of our workshop, each student will go home with a recipe booklet, sourdough starter and instructions to keep it alive + well, and a pie to bake at home. We can take a small tour through Somerset Orchards -- our chosen location for this workshop, and see all of the apples and trees that produce the award winning cider we will taste. Our workshop includes a light lunch with West Avenue Cider.
Extra Info:We will be on our feet for the workshop, and weather permitting we will be outside. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
Feel free (it is recommended) to bring a water bottle with you. Coffee will be provided in the morning and water will be available.
FAQs What if I've never baked before and don't really understand what 'sourdough' is?That is totally O.K! This course is designed to appease people of all skill levels. Please come, bring your curiosity and get ready to learn!
Where does the workshop take place?Our workshop will take place in a beatiful setting:
West Avenue Cider House at Somerset Orchards.
West Avenue produces award-winning ciders that use only the best ingredients and a slow fermentation process that allows each batch to show the characteristics of the orchard. For more information, visit www.westavenue.ca Do I need to bring any tools/aprons/bowls/etc. with me?Everything needed to complete the workshop wil be provided for you. All you need to bring is yourself + an eager appetite for all things sourdough! What is the refund policy?You are eligbile for a full refund up until 30 days before the event takes place. After the 30 days, refunds will not be given. You are however able to send someone in your place if you aren't able to make it! How long is the workshop?The workshop will run from 10am until approximately 3pm. The time is dependent on how much curiousity and conversation is created throughout the day.
