Program Descriptions

Grades 1-3

It is often easy to forget or lose our way. This program focuses on the concept of self-identity and belonging; building relationships and facing challenges. The films in this program explore what it means to hold onto, celebrate, and reflect on our sense of who we are.

Tuesday, November 13 from 9:00-11:00am

Thursday, November 15 from 1:00-3:00pm

Grades 4-6

Each of these films reflect on the concept of barriers, whether they be physical, interpersonal or social. This program deals with ideas of accessibility, cultural difference, and overcoming adversity. We all experience barriers in our own lives, and sometimes the barriers we face are similar to barriers others face, and sometimes they are different. By celebrating, reflecting, and overcoming barriers, the films in this program teach us how to understand others as well as ourselves.

Tuesday, November 13 from 1:00-3:00pm

Wednesday, November 14 from 1:00-3:00pm

Grades 7-8

Each of the films presented centre around youth confronting the prejudice and negative stereotypes they face. The subjects and characters of these films acknowledge the difficulty it takes to face the world as themselves, but are resilient and understand the value that comes from knowing their self-worth. We will use these films to engage in topics of microaggressions, racism, anti-black racism, marginalization, homophobia, Islamophobia, privilege, bias, queerness, stereotypes and trauma. Definitions for these words will be provided at the end of this lesson plan as some of the discussion questions will make reference to these words.

Wednesday, November 14 from 9:00-11:00am

Thursday, November 15 from 9:00-11:00am
