Cases involving domestic violence are complex. Not only are there unique legal challenges, but there may also be ongoing safety concerns for the victim and those who protect them, child protection concerns, parallel immigration and criminal proceedings and ongoing conflict. These cases require a high level of awareness, knowledge and sensitivity.

This training has been developed by Pamela Cross, Legal Director of Luke" Place Support and Resource Centre in Durham Region. This training will be focused on building awareness and will include topics such as:

• Screening tools, and signs a person may be experiencing domestic violence
• Effective communication with clients who experience domestic violence
• Providing culturally sensitive services to domestic violence clients
• Stereotypes and misconceptions of domestic violence

A light breakfast will be served at 8:45am, as well as a lunch later in the day.
