Feeling inspired about building your own tiny home, cabin, bunk house, small space or even a studio? While the internet is full of ideas, taking the next step into designing your own space and implementing it can be daunting. This workshop will give an overview to construction styles, information on passive solar layout, working on a budget and many design considerations you may have not even thought of. A little foresight, insight and time to geek out on design, will save you some mistakes and help make your creation one to be proud of. Whether you have a design in hand or have never swung a hammer, but are full of heart, come and join in to help with your upcoming projects success. This workshop will be geared to spaces of approximately 100 square feet and under, though principals will apply to larger buildings as well. The workshop will include a presentation full of ideas, suggestions, and hard-learned lessons that will be useful to you at any stage, but particularly early-on in your project. After that you'll get a chance to work through some of your own plans (whether they are still only dreams, or you have already started building). Bring along any plans or photos of your intended build site, but these are definitely not necessary to get huge value from this workshop! What you will learn: How to approach your building project in a way that make the best use of your time, space, money, and materials. Basic design and material options to consider, and how to make the best choices for your project. How to plan out the phases of your project in a logical sequence. Tips on how to get your project done on a tight budget. What you will take home: A hand-out full of resources and suggestions to help you plan and trouble shoot your project. Practical tips on how to approach your building project to make best use of time, money, and materials. Confidence to finally get started on that build you've been dreaming of, or to move your project on to the next stage. Connections with a whole crew of folks who won't fall asleep when you want to talk about the finer details of footings, roof angle, or passive solar. This workshop is for you if: You are dreaming, planning, or already building a small structure. You want guidance on how to get started, what to consider, what to do first, and how to troubleshoot your building project. You love to consider a problem from multiple angles before taking it on, including building materials, landscape features, energy efficiency, and intended use of the finished building. Currently working on another new build, he stewards the land as well as treats it as a canvas to create upon. Immersed in many forays including woodworking, design and upcycling, he is always looking to improve upon existing ideas. He brings a practical, creative aesthetic and perspective to his many endeavours combining knowledge from a variety of fields.
